# Authentication and Classroom Permissions

Explains when and why MindEngage requests Google Classroom access during sign-in.

### 🔐 Google Sign-In Requirements

MindEngage supports two types of sign-in depending on your intended use:

#### 🧾 Basic Sign-In (No Classroom Access)

If you're just exploring or generating lessons, diagrams, or simulations — you can sign in with a basic Google account. This minimal sign-in **does not request access to Google Classroom or Drive**.

* ✅ Required for creating content
* ❌ Does not request access to Classroom, Forms, or Google Cloud Storage

> This flow is used on the main sign-in page (`/signin`) and is sufficient for browsing and editing content within the authoring studio.

***

#### 🏫 Publishing to Google Classroom (Requires Extra Permissions)

If you want to **publish courses or quizzes directly to Google Classroom** or **generate and assign Google Forms**:

✅ You will be prompted to grant access to the following Google services:

* **Google Classroom** (courses, coursework, announcements, topics)
* **Google Forms**
* **Google Cloud Storage**

These scopes are essential for:

* Creating and updating Google Classroom courses
* Attaching assessments and materials
* Managing linked forms and due dates

> This flow is triggered automatically when you try to publish or announce lessons inside the **Publish** tab.

***

#### 🔁 Re-authentication Prompts

If your access token has expired or does not include the required scopes, you will be prompted to **re-authenticate** with the appropriate permissions. You may also manually trigger this using the **“Re-authenticate”** button shown in relevant tabs.

***

#### ℹ️ Notes

* These permissions are requested only when needed.
* You can revoke access at any time from your Google account permissions.
